Announcement for recent actions On the third weekend of October 2020 (24/10/20 & 25/10/20)

Announcement of the “Ark of Hydra” for its recent actions and informing the citizensOn the third weekend of October 2020 (24/10/20 & 25/10/20) cats were neutered on the island of Hydra.38 cats were neutered and dewormed. Also, 2 cats received dental treatment and 2 were operated on for other diseases (polyps, tumors, etc.). Euthanasia was performed on 2 cats with end-stage cancer. One cat was diagnosed with a benign tumor and will be operated on next time.2 blind kittens were examined and received treatment. They will be hosted by a volunteer and then promoted for adoption. We are looking for homes.A kitten from Vlychos with a paralyzed hind leg received treatment and was fortunately adopted.3 cats were given first aid and blood was drawn. They should be treated for 20 days with antibiotics and vitamins. We are looking for volunteers to give the medication. The cats live in the areas of Papagalos and Perivolakia.4 cats were tested for various diseases: 2 from the Port, 1 from the stadium, and 1 brought by a fellow citizen and diagnosed with cancer.2 stray cats were brought in by volunteers in poor condition: a female from the Avlaki area, paralyzed with pain, and a female dehydrated and malnourished from the area Perivolakia. Both cats are in a clinic in Athens. Their medical and transportation expenses will be covered by the Ark. We are looking for volunteers to accompany them back and also to foster them for as long as it takes until they finish their treatment with antibiotics and vitamins.Total: 57 animals (strays). All animals were dewormed.Detailed coverage of expenses for 24-25 / 10/2020Doctors’ fee: Municipality of HydraDoctors’ tickets: Hydra ArkDoctors’ accommodation: Hydra ArkPapers, nylon, cleaners, etc: Hydra ArkCoffees, doctors’ meals: Hydra Ark.We would like to remind you that:All animal welfare associations in the country are voluntary organizations. Proper stray management therefore requires the cooperation1. The competent authorities, who also have their supervision according to law2. Animal welfare associations, which can contribute voluntarily3. Society as a wholeIn addition it should be clarified that:· HydraArk tries every year, with programs and other actions, to help and inform.· The law does not require the management of stray animals to be the responsibility of animal welfare associations.· The law imposes the management of stray animals on the municipalities, which are responsible for the collection of animals, their sterilization, and their return to their familiar environments.· The members of the unions are volunteers who give their time for FREE—whenever they can and as much as they can. Any sideways hints, critical comments, or even unnecessary blame concerning what we did or did not do clearly show ignorance and ingratitude and are slanderous. We thank our wonderful doctors who worked tirelessly! We thank our fellow citizens who brought cats from their neighborhoods. We warmly thank the Municipality of Hydra, the Mayor Mr. George Koukoudakis, and the Deputy Mayor Mary Katsikas. Finally, a big THANK YOU to all our volunteers who all these years work voluntarily so that our island is an example to be imitated and not to be avoided. Who would want to go on holiday to a place where the animals are sick and hungry?
